If you are really angry at PC game developers, wait for a long time till I complete my Own game with Game-Play similar to unreal and much more. Full details will be soon on this blog or a link will be given for its webpage. It will take long time as I am alone, poor, actually a novel writer, not a coding god like Jhon Carmack, etc. etc.
I estimate 10 years at current Rate. (Duke Nukem Forever has taken more than 10 years already, they are funding it from their pocket, so it is natural)
My inspirations are Unreal Tournament 2004, Halo 1, Crysis, NeverWinter Nights 1, TES4 - Oblivion, Age of Empires 2 - The Conquerors.

Graphics API - Direct X, OpenGL or Whatever available at the time of completion. Because Intel Larrabee can disrupt API's in future.
A software renderer may be. Though highly unlikely as you will not like to play pixelated games now and Good Graphics card are very cheap these days.
Target Hardware - Only NVIDIA Graphics cards for now. But obviously it will run on AMD or Intel cards also if they have the required features atleast on Windows in DirectX mode.
On Linux - Ubuntu Linux (if made), NVIDIA + OpenGL only obviously.

Game-Play, AI, Graphics, Physics, Interactivity, choices, branching play
are the focus in this order.
In short the Game is a mix Package containing

1.) Multiplayer and also in Offline Single Player with Bots
Fast Deathmatch, Team DM, CTF (Like UT2004, tweaked)
, Vehicle CTF (Like UT3)
, Conquest - includes Vehicles (Like Star Wars Battlefront - a really good Conquest game, forget battlefield, and this is fast in right amount)
No Warfare as Conquest is more freeform and similar. The only weakness of Unreal is lack of a good Conquest Game Type or Mod.
Assault may be added.
2.) Single Player Game (Like Halo 1 - Combat Evolved + Crysis + Star Wars - Jedi Acdemy)
A suit having powers similar to Crysis nano suit atleast.
And may have powers similar to force powers of Star Wars - Jedi Academy.
Powers can be turned Off in Multiplayer and Offline modes as they disrupt Game play balance.
This means 2 Single player Games 1.) and 2.)

3.) Single Player (Like NeverWinter Nights 1 - story, choices + Oblivion - Real Time Combat and controls) - Medieval Fantasy

4.) Single Player and Multiplayer (Complete copy of Age of Empires 2 - The Conquerors, but civilizations upgradable from Dark Ages to Science Fiction Age)
As you can see from this list It is not difficult to select features from best popular PC Games and make a enjoyable Game Package, that is sure to sell millions of copies to PC Gamers, will be liked by many people. Will be very interesting.
But it is very difficult to complete this task. As I collect more money and people get added to this project, work will be in full speed.

This game will be completely heavily moddable, will use Squirrell as a Scripting Language, every thing may be changed by Sqirrell scripts or cfg files or GUI tools (even color of menus and in game characters body build, gear, colour, etc.),
Come with editor comparable to CryEngine2 Sandbox, and other tools.
And the SOURCE CODE WILL be OPENSOURCE under ZLIB License within one year.
Of Course as many of you have guessed this looks a very difficult project to complete without money and people, speed will be very slow in start, but this project will not be abandoned in my life-time atleast.
Money is planned to be arranged from my own Novel writing income + donations.
People may be hired or asked on voluntary basis as required, depending on financial situation and needs.

Even code for doing 3D Vector calculations is not added (Though easily available in DIRECT3DX Library and as source code from Books, time spent is the factor)
A Blank Window is started which will provide Window for DirectX and OpenGL Rendering

Time Taken - One Year
Laugh till you get tired. But projects are started like this, as seeds, then as they grow they look big and are made iteratively. Also I didnot knew anything in starting and had to learn loads of things. Even creating a windows by WinAPI is very difficult for beginners and my programming concepts were also not that good.
Other than that My Primary Interest is Writing Fantasy Novels and I am good in English Writing only. So it takes much of Time and Energy , also it is more Financially returning, I am going to get almost nothing in money from my game as it seems now, while Novel Writing is a very good career. Also I am finacially very poor these days.
These are reasons of Delay.
Though the project will be continued in my spare time and will never be abandoned.

With Screenshots and Playable Demos as made, since I donot believe in pre-rendered videos like of Killzone 2 - A great video of a game that was never made that way. Compare with Playable Demo of Crysis which actually showed what to expect in real game. It can be agreed though that only half of Crysis is that way and good but what is very good is still very good.
